The Legal Services Board and Commissioner

In Victoria, the Legal Services Board (“Board”) is responsible for all regulation of the legal profession (apart from complaints and professional discipline).

The Legal Services Commissioner (“Commissioner”) is responsible for dealing with complaints about legal professionals and disciplining these professionals.

The Victorian Board and Commissioner operate under the broad oversight of the Legal Services Council (“Council”) and the Commissioner for Uniform Legal Services Regulation (“Uniform Commissioner”). The Council and Uniform Commissioner play an important role in ensuring that legal profession regulation is applied consistently in all states participating in the Uniform Law Scheme – currently Victoria and New South Wales.
