The latest Insurance Code of Practice commenced in July 2006. The Code sets higher service standards for the insurance industry.
The objectives of the new General Insurance Code of Practice ("the Code") are:
- to promote better, more informed relations between insurers and their customers;
- to improve consumer confidence in the general insurance industry;
- to provide better mechanisms for the resolution of the complaints and disputes between insurers and their customers; and
- to commit insurers and the professionals they rely upon to higher standards of customer service.
The application of the new Code to various aspects of insurance is discussed throughout this chapter. A copy of the Code is available from:
