There is a right of appeal from the SSAT to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) (see: Chapter 21*3 Administrative Appeals Tribunals). The AAT may only review a decision that has been reviewed by the SSAT (s.181 SSA Act). Anyone, including Centrelink (technically the Secretary of the relevant department), affected by an SSAT decision may apply to the AAT for review of that decision (s.179 SSA Act). In each case, there is no financial charge for the appeal, and no legal costs can be awarded.
