CAV provides a service that offers advice or seeks to resolve disputes arising from domestic building and renovations.

CAV works closely with the Building Commission to provide a joint service known as Building Advice and Conciliation Victoria (BACV). The BACV assists in resolving approximately 2,000 domestic building disputes each year.
The Building Commission is a statutory authority that oversees building legislation, regulates building practices, advises government and provides services to industry and consumers. The Commission regulates the Victorian building industry, administers the registration of Victorian building practitioners and monitors their conduct, administers building legislation, accredits building products and construction methods and advises government on building policy.
The Commission, in conjunction with CAV, offers the BACV to resolve disputes arising from domestic building work and contracts (tel: 1300 557 559). The BACV provides free advice and assistance in resolving home building and renovating problems. It offers a voluntary dispute resolution process.

The Building Practitioners' Board is an independent statutory body that oversees the quality and standard of professional services provided by building practitioners.
The Building Practitioners' Board will investigate a serious complaint about a registered building practitioner.
Consumers should contact the Building Practitioners' Board to ensure that building practitioners they engage are registered and appropriately insured(tel: 1300 360 320).
